”Developing Palettes”

This workshop is designed for artists, craftspeople, or designers looking to expand the color themes and motifs in their work. Through a sequence of small-scale studies based on specific color prompts, we uncover how to build nuanced palettes while playing around with color theory concepts at the same time. In the class, participants can choose to work in direct painting or collage with hand-painted papers, with results that can be translated into any other medium afterward - painting, textiles, ceramics, digital media, etc.

This class is suitable for anyone with basic color theory and paint mixing skills wishing to enhance their skills working with color.

Lena Wolff has taught color studies at Pixar Animation Studios, Facebook Open Arts, Disney Animation Studios, Nike, Kala Art Institute and independently in her studio in Berkeley, California for over a decade.

A note on MATERIALS: students provide their own materials. For people who already have a painting practice and a set of their own materials, little needs to be purchased but it is important to have a set of small surfaces (canvases or paper) to work on. For those without a painting practice, I recommend working in small hand-painted collages and the basic materials list for that is below (and will be emailed in detail with links to purchase after signing up.) The rough cost for everything on the list is $100 if you’re starting from scratch.

Cancellations can be made up to 2 weeks in advance (until 11/20/2022) for a refund of $150.
