Sashiko Embroidery & Visible Mending, January 2026

$250.00

Workshop Date:

Saturday, January 31, 2026, noon to 4pm

Location: Lena’s studio in Central Berkeley
limited to 6 participants (1 spot left)

About the Class:

This workshop offers an introduction and continuation of practice with Sashiko, a meditative form of embroidery that encompasses a vast lexicon of lyrical and geometric patterns that developed in Japan in the mid-1600’s. All skill levels are welcome to join, from absolute beginners to those with past experience or for people who have taken a workshop with me in the past.

A brief history and the basic principles of Sashiko will be introduced, including how to read and draft patterns onto fabric by hand with ease. In the intimate setting of my studio with a small class size, participants can chose to work on a variety of possible projects, with fabric prepared to make coasters, sachets, or patches with visible mending.

All materials will be provided, including naturally dyed Sashiko thread in a variety of colors made by A Verb for Keeping Warm, along with resources to take home to springboard future projects to embellish clothing, quilts, or other home textiles.
