Sashiko Embroidery, in-person, May 31, 2025
Workshop Date
Saturday, May 31, 11am to 2pm
Location: Lena’s studio in Berkeley (address provided on sign up)
Limited to 6 participants / 1 spot left
About the Class:
This workshop offers an introduction to the techniques, materials, and methods of Sashiko, a meditative form of embroidery that encompasses a vast lexicon of lyrical and geometric patterns that developed in Japan in the mid-1600’s.
Together we’ll make a pair of indigo-dyed coasters embellished with two different patterns. A brief history and the basic principles of Sashiko will be introduced, including an array of stitches and how to read and draft patterns onto fabric hand with ease. Reference material will be given to all students as fodder to springboard future projects to embellish clothing, quilts, or other home textiles.
Overall, the workshop is suitable for experienced sewists or beginners alike. Participants who have taken a recent Intro to Sashiko workshop with me are welcome to return and practice new projects during this class.
All materials will be provided!
Cancellation Policy: generally, classes can’t be cancelled, but refunds may be extended if open seats are filled with a new participant.
