About the Workshop

This workshop was designed as a “Part 2” for people who have taken my introductory color theory class, or the equivalent, as an opportunity to continue to experiment with a range of nuanced color themes and motifs. During the class, each participant will create a small series of hand-painted cut paper collage studies using unique palettes, color contrasts and color harmonies that emerge from paint-mixing prompts rooted in color theory principals.

In addition to the prompts offered, everyone will discover their own library of color references and create related collages based on individual preferences and findings.

If desired, participants can also develop studies for projects that will be completed in a larger format or in different mediums, for example: as a planning phase for ceramics, a quilt, a set of paintings, etc.

Open to practicing artists, craftsperson, designers, and general color enthusiasts alike. The only “pre-req” for this class is a solid foundation in color mixing and basic color theory. I recommend taking Experiments in Color (my basic color theory class) first if you’re new or returning to color studies after a break.

On Materials:

For this class, participants will mainly work with traditional gouache to hand-mix paint for paper collages. Lena will provide provide some paper, glue, glue brushes and a few other collage materials. Participants will bring their own paint, brushes, mixing palettes, some paper and scissors. A link to the materials list with specific details will be emailed after sign up.
