About the Class:

This workshop offers an introduction to hand-sewing and Sashiko, a meditative form of embroidery that encompasses a vast lexicon of lyrical and geometric patterns that developed in Japan in the mid-1600’s. All skill levels are welcome to join, from absolute beginners to those with some experience.

A brief history and the basic principles of Sashiko will be introduced, including how to read and draft patterns onto fabric by hand with ease and together we’ll work on two small hand-sewn coaster projects to take home.

All materials will be provided, including naturally dyed Sashiko thread made by A Verb for Keeping Warm, along with resources to springboard future projects to embellish clothing, quilts, or other home textiles.
