Repair Shop is honored to host Oakland-based interdisciplinary artist Monica Canilao for an intimate and intensive jewelry making class, providing an opportunity for participants to create pieces that double as wearable art and altars. Celebrated for her ornately patterned and layered work in a wide range of mediums, Monica strongly believes in the reuse, repair, and recycling of everyday objects.
In this class, participants will walk through techniques of jewelry construction, mending, and the process of rebuilding broken jewelry to make one-of-a-kind pieces or a set, using a combination of materials brought from home and a collection of beads and elements that Monica will provide.
Each person will leave with a wearable artwork, totems that contain power, and the skills to create many more in the future.
